Walk with me
My eye and voice have always been drawn to nature. Taking photos makes me stop, look, and appreciate what is in front of my eyes.
I began writing at age 6; my first creative work was a poem masterpiece titled “Spring”. Since then I’ve amassed piles of poems and short fiction.
When I started taking photos it was the film era. I had an Instamatic, then traded up to a Minolta SLR. Eventually I switched to digital when I grasped its opportunities for creative expression.
For more than 10 years I have collaborated with a visual artist / writer and a dancer to create performance pieces that incorporate spoken word, visual images, and movement. This collaboration, called Poet’s Eye, Artist’s Voice, also generated “Image-Poems,” an exhibition at the Austin-Irving branch of the Chicago Public Library. It showed Scottie Kersta-Wilson’s photo montages which incorporated my poems.
Recently I’ve helped support and promote artists and the arts by doing volunteer work for Northwest Arts Connection, a non-profit organization for the visual, performing, literary, film / video, horticultural, and culinary arts. My work includes taking photos at art events and posting them on social media.
